Glossop North End Juniors 2 v 1 AFC Stanley
A fantastic display by Glossop u12s with two Goals by Alex Tetlow one in each half secured an excellent win in the East Manchester Junior Football League Cup Final which was played at Ewen Fields Hyde last Saturday. The boys put the disappointment of not winning the championship behind them, with an outstanding performance against a very good AFC Stanley side. Glossop soon got into their stride, and took the lead after 7 minutes, when following a lovely passing move which started with goalkeeper Jack Bradbury throwing to his full back James Wilson and finished when Alex headed in a cross from the right by George Dyson, with 7 players involved in the move this was a goal straight out of the coaching manual. Glossop continued to play the best football but to their credit AFC Stanley were never out of it. On 27minutes Glossop thought they had increased their lead, but after consulting his assistant the referee disallowed what looked to be a good goal. So at half time Glossop went in 1nill up, but the score line certainly didn’t represent a true picture of the game. The second half saw George Thirsk replace Jack Bradbury in the Glossop goal & Reece Clayton came on at right back for James Wilson. Glossop were pushing hard for the second goal but the AFC Stanley defence had other idea’s but after a concession of corners, the second goal did come, George Dyson was again the provider with a teasing cross which beat the keeper and Alex Tetlow was on hand to tap the ball over the line for his second of the match.

With ten minutes left AFC Stanley pushed extra players forward and got their reward when they scored following a free kick. Now it was the Glossop defence that had to stand firm and the back four of Reece Clayton, Adam Barton George Lindsey & Sam Clegg did just that making sure AFC didn’t get another shot on goal.

Selecting a man of the match was a difficult choice for the league official with every one of players from both sides giving their all, Glossop midfield dynamo Cameron Ball gave his usual super display but for once was overshadowed by his midfield partner George Dyson who took the award. All season Glossop have played some excellent football but without doubt they saved their best till last. Some of the football was breathtaking and must have made the coaches very proud.

2 January 2011 Manchester Corinthians 2 - 3 Glossop North End
Glossop under 12’s were finally back in action this week for only their 2nd game in an 8 week period affected by the snow & Festive break. Their opponents were high flying Manchester Corinthians (AKA Vipers), both teams went into the game unbeaten, so something had to give. GNE having won their previous 7 fixtures this season and Corinthians having only dropped 2 points from their previous 7 games, the game was finely balanced and set up to be a classic. However with both teams having not been able to train or play for so long it took both teams 10mins to shake off the cobwebs; Corinthians starting the brighter in this spell and from a mix up in defense capitalised to take the lead after only 2 mins. This seemed to kick start Glossop who came back strongly, creating a number of chances which unfortunately they couldn’t convert. Corinthians were forced to play counter attacking football and from one such break, George Thirsk the GNE keeper was called upon to produce an outstanding save. With Glossop on top the game entered added time at the end of the 1st half, It was during this time GNE finally found a finish to reward their dominance, Alex Tetlow finishing well as the ball dropped in the 6 yard box. Glossop now had their opponents on the rack and from the next attack the irrepressible Cameron Ball produced a sublime finish with the last kick of the half to put Glossop 2-1 up at the break. The 2nd half started well with both teams playing some fantastic football, which was a credit to both sets of coaches. Glossop were still creating the majority of chances but were unable to put the game out of sight; again Corinthians came back strongly and with only 10 mins of the game remaining scored from another counter attack; a cracking strike from the edge of the area bringing the scores level. The game was now in the balance and with only 5 minutes remaining some terrific wing play from Alex Tetlow resulted in he being bundled over 5 yards outside the apex of the 18 yard box. Up stepped George Dyson who curled a Beckhamesque free kick into the far right top corner; jubilant scenes erupted from the players and their proud parents. Glossop hung on from some intense pressure to take all 3 points and start 2011 on a high, sitting proudly at the top of the league. Jack Wright took the MOM award for a superbly tireless display of attacking play. Well done lads, keep up the good work!!

Glossop v Dukinfield Youth 2-0

Glossop Juniors U12s processed into the semi final of East Manchester Primary Cup with a 2-0 win away at Dukinfield Youth. Although it was nil nil at half time this was never going to end scoreless, and had it not been for some great saves from the Dukinfield goalkeeper Glossop would have been 2 or 3 up, one save was outstanding, diving to his left to push a Scott Irvine rocket round the post had to be been seen to be believed.

Glossop started the second half were they left off the first, pushing forward looking for that all important first goal. But as well as they were playing the keeper was still denying them with more excellent saves, all the pressure had to tell and midway through the half Glossop finally beat the goalkeeper when a cross come shot from Cameron Ball somehow was pushed into the net by the keeper, It was no more than Glossop deserved and the second goal quickly followed when Oliver Webster with his back to goal turned to hit low drive into the bottom corner of the net. This was a good all-round performance from the U12s, whose attitude had questioned following last week’s defeat in the Manchester County Cup. Selecting a Man of the Match was not easy, but in the end it went to captain George Lindsay for leading by example.

Glossop v Reddish Villa 4 -1
Another 3 points for the U12s, as they beat Reddish Villa 4-1, in a good game at Cemetery Road on Sunday. They got off to the best possible start when Alex Tetlow scored in the first minute. But for all their good play and possession they had to wait till late in the first half to get there second. Again it was Alex Tetlow finding the net with a good finish from just inside the box. The second half saw the U12s come under some heavy pressure from Reddish but not for the first time the U12s defence stood strong. Mid way through the half Cameron Ball got the U12s third goal when he powered his way into the box and hit a low hard drive into the bottom corner. Reddish hit straight back with a goal, after some good work down the right their winger lifted a ball into the area that somehow beat everyone and finished up in the net, still not sure if it was a shot or a cross, but they all count. In the dying seconds Alex Tetlow got his third of the match to give a final score of 4-1 to Glossop.

Glossop North End under 12s progressed to the semi-final of the Divisional Cup with a hard earned 3-1 win over a well organised and determined Reddish Villa.
Playing their first game in over 3 weeks Glossop took the lead after just 2 minutes when James Wilson rounded off a free flowing move with left foot drive into the corner of net. However, Reddish came back strongly and tested the Glossop defence several times before equalising just before half-time to ensure the scores were level at the break.

The second half of the tie saw the pace of the game increase with both sides having chances to take the lead. Midway through the half Glossop took the lead with a goal from the industrious Cameron Ball. Again Reddish responded well in their search for an equaliser but a cool finish from Glossop striker Oliver Webster made the score 3-1 to take them through to the semi-final. Once again it was a solid team performance from the Glossop boys in which every player played their part. The boys can look forward to a well earned break over Christmas, recharge their batteries and come back even stronger in the New Year after what has been a fantastic start to the season; it certainly is shaping up to be an exciting and interesting season. Keep up the good work lads!!

14 November Glossop v Curzon Ashton
After last week’s lack of goals, the lads from Glossop scored 9 in their away win against Curzon Ashton U12s. Leading 5-0 at half time the lads kept their foot on the pedal in the second half to score 4 more without reply. From the start Glossop played some excellent football and one wonders what the coaches said at training in midweek with regards to the lack of goals well whatever it was, it paid off. The goals came from Alex Tetlow and Oliver Webster who both got hat-tricks Jack Wright who got 2 and Man of the Match George Lindsey also getting on the score sheet. Next week Glossop again face Curzon and must not be too complacent, Curzon are a good side and will be going out to reverse this week’s result.

7 November Glossop v Chadderton Juniors 1-2
Glossop U12s lost their unbeaten record on Sunday when they went down 2-1 in the Primary Cup to high flying Chadderton Juniors. Due to a waterlogged pitch the U12s lost their home advantage and had to play on the 3G surface at Curzon Ashton. Chadderton settled the quicker and scored 2 well taken goals before the Glossop lads had got the feel of the pitch. The second half saw the U12s begin to play like we know they can and with Cameron Ball and George Dyson starting to run the midfield it seemed only a matter of time before they scored, when their goal did come it was fitting that it was Cameron Ball who finished a move set up by George Dyson. Glossop were having all the possession in fact the Glossop keeper only touch the ball once in the whole of the second half, and but the woodwork twice and some good goalkeeping the Glossop lads would have got at least a draw. On another day it might have been different, but to make process Glossop will have to start scoring goals.

31 October Glossop v Stalybridge Celtic 4-1

The U12s had a comfortable away win at Stalybridge Celtic last weekend. After a somewhat slow start, the lads started to get it together and took the lead after 15mins when Oliver Webster scored after a good build up down the left side. The second followed soon after when again after a good move down the left saw Alex Tetlow cross for Oliver to get his 2nd of the match. On 18mins Oliver completed his hat trick when his shot from the edge of the box beat the keeper. Glossop were by now firing on all cylinders and it came as no surprise when jack Wright riffled one in from just inside the box. The Celtic boys came out for the second looking to push forward and to their credit played some good football, and did get a goal back, but in truth after that the Glossop defence was never really tested and further goals from Cameron Ball and another from Oliver Webster gave a final score of 6-1 to the U12s from Glossop.

26 September Glossop v Reddish villa 4-1
Goals from Scott Irvine, Cameron Ball, Adam Barton & Sam Clegg give the Glossop lads a well deserved 4-1 victory away to Reddish Villa, this was the teams 4th win and maintained their 100% record. So far this season they have beaten AFC Stanley, St John’s JFC 7-1 and Stalybridge Celtic 3-0. Playing on Sunday the lads soon got in the stride and played some very good football, whilst full of praise for his own side Glossop Coach Matt Walsh was quick to point out that Reddish Villa never give up and felt sure they would win more games than they lose. For Glossop once again Adam Barton and Cameron ball turned good performances but man of the match went to Sam Clegg not only for his 25 yard screamer of a goal but for his all round contribution to the game.
