31.10.10 County Cup 1st round : Glossop North End Kestrels 3 Reddish Vulcans 1
30.10.10 Chadderton Juniors 1 Glossop North End Kestrels 6
Glossop North End Falcons 2 Pegs Juniors 1
In what was a very busy weekend for Glossop North End under 11s the Kestrels came up against the well respected Reddish Vulcans in the 1st round of the county cup on Sunday lunch-time and if the truth be told played them off the park ! The boys started quite nervously as the Vulcans passed the ball around very well but the first goal of the game from Adam Cooper turned the tide in Glossop favour and Luke Forrester made it 2-0 midway through the first half . A hotly disputed Vulcans goal seconds before half-time did not seem to phase the boys and an expertly taken third goal from Lee Mcnamara sealed the result for the Kestrels . Goalkeeper Joe Parker was rarely troubled such was the defensive blanket thrown round him by Lockie Gough George Lyth Luke Spivey and captain Jamie Doxey . Andreas Kitromilides was absolutely outstanding in centre midfield where he and Luke Forrester won the first battle of the day . Will Hartshorne used his electric pace on the right wing to constantly trouble the Vulcans defence whilst up front Jake Craven and Nathan Gould led the line superbly . Substitute Matthew Strogen showed he was very comfortable in such a hectic game when called upon and special mention should be made to Charlie Meagram who although out injured for a number of weeks has not missed a game and cheered the boys on from the sidelines ! It was decided that no individual should be named man of the match and instead it was made agroup award !Well done boys you showed how much improvement has been made in the last 2 years that not only can you compete against the likes of Reddish Vulcans but you can go onto to beat them !
In the league campaign the Kestrels travelled to the beautiful surroundings of Fox Denton park to take on Chadderton Juniorrs and came away with a convincing 6-1 victory . Going a goal down seemed to galvanise the boys and strikes from Nathan Gould (3) Jake Craven (2) and Jamie Doxey secured the 3 points ! It was in fact Jamie who took the man of the match award .
The Falcons seem to be improving week on week and beat Pegs Juniors 2-1 at Cemetry Road on Saturday morning . A double strike from Archie Cannon the second in the dying embers of the game secured the 3 points but it was the way the team approached the game which shows that they are finally coming to terms with the 11 a side format ! Josef Szita was named man of the match for his all action display . The whole team however deserves a pat on the back and they can look forward to the rest of the campaign with renewed optimism
16.10.10. Glossop North End Kestrels 19 Clayton Villa 0
AFC Oldham 5 Glossop North End Falcons 4
It was a morning for breaking records at Cemetery road on Saturday . Firstly it was the boys highest ever competitive score since the squad came together secondly the largest individual total by a Kestrels player and thirdly the first time the team has had hat tricks from 3 different boys in the same game . The game itself was as one-sided as the score suggests but it must be said that Clayton should be complimented on their attitude which remained the same all trough the game . The goals themselves came from Jake Craven (7) Adam Cooper (4) Luke Forrester (3) Nathan Gould (2) Andreas Kitromilides (2) and Lockie Gough and unsurprisingly it was Jake who secured the man of the match award . Special mention should also be made for Adam Cooper for his performance from left midfield probably the teams only weak point positionally .
In the second game the Falcons produced a much better performance against the same opposition from last week and were very unlucky to lose a closely fought game to a last minute goal . The team had a better balance to it and goals from Matthew Strogen (2) Ross Mullett and Josef Szita pushed AFC Oldham all the way . Regan Gibson was named man of the match for his exemplary display in the middle of defence . The boys should take heart from the fact that their performances are improving week on week and will become a very competent unit !
9.10.10 Dukinfield Youth 1 Glossop North End Kestrels 3
Glossop North End Falcons 0 AFC Oldham 4
In what was probably the boys best win since they came together over 4 years ago the Kestrels travelled to Dukinfield on Saturday morning and came away with a convincing 3-1 victory . From start to finish the boys were superior in every department against one of the strongest set ups in the league and beyond . Each boy from Joe Parker in goals upto Jake Craven Nathan Gould and Charlie Meagram up front played their part ! In defence Lockie Gough and central defensive partner George Lyth were outstanding against some excellent forwards and full backs Adam Cooper and Jamie Doxey constantly supported the midfield with some athletic running . The wing play from both Will Hartshorne and Luke Spivey was at times breathtaking and if there is a better central midfield partnership in the league than Andreas Kitromilides and Luke Forrester we have yet to see it ! For the record the goals came from Andreas Kitromilides Jake Craven and Will Harthorne whilst Nathan took the man of the match award . It also has to be noted that if the boys had also taken more of the opportunities presented to them the score would have been even better
In the second game of the day the Kestrels had a disappointing 4-0 reversal to AFC Oldham . The game started well and for the first 15 minutes it looked like Glossop would be the only winners ! The turning point was a missed penalty, the teams third in the last four games and you could see the confidence drain from the boys faces . It was then an uphill battle and the boys could not turn the game back in their favour . Matthew Strogen , an excellent addition to the squad , was named man of the match for his superb performance from midfield !
2.10.2010 Glossop North End Kestrels 3 Stalybridge Celtic 3
Uppermill 3 Glossop North End Falcons 1
The Kestrels came up against another of their genuine title contenders in Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday morning at Cemetry Road . Against strong and physical opposition the boys stuck to their task manfully and participated in a very entertaining end to end tussle ! It was a game full of chances and Glossops goals came from a Nathan Gould double and Charlie Meagram . Luke Forrester took the man of the match award for his tireless work from centre midfield . In the second game of the day the Falcons travelled to Uppermill hoping to continue their excellent early season form . It was not to be however as they went down 3-1 . The result does not tell the full story as if the boys had taken a number of chances presented to them the score would have been somewhat different . Glossops goal came from Matthew Strogen whilst Sam Ekgren was named man of the match for his superb handling in goals.
25.09.2010 Dukinfield Youth 1 Glossop North End Kestrels 0
Tintwistle Athletic 0 Glossop North End Falcons 10
It was a morning of contrasting fortunes for Glossop North End under 11s on Saturday . The Kestrels travelled to Dukinfield in the first heavy weight clash of the season in the league cup . The boys more than matched Dukinfield Youth in every department but struggled to put the ball in the back of the net. In the second half Luke Forrester twice hit the woodwork before Duki broke away and scored from their one real chance in the period. It is obviously a learning curve for the team but it must be said they did not deserve to come away with nothing . Joe Parker was named man of the match In the second game the Falcons continued their excellent start to the season and hit double figures for the second week in succession . For the record the goals came from Matthew Strogen (4) Ross Mullett (3) Thomas Weston (2) and Archie Cannon. The score was even more remarkable in that the team was without their regular goalkeeper and the boys took it in turns to go in goals!
18.09.2010 Clayton Villa 2 Glossop North End Kestrels 12
Glossop North End Falcons 10 Tintwistle Athletic 0
It was a goal bonanza for Glossop North End under 11s on Saturday morning ! The Kestrels travelled to Openshaw to take on Clayton Villa and quickly went one goal down within a couple of minutes of the kick off ! The boys managed to keep their composure and duely took charge of the game winning 12-2 . For the record the goals came from Andreas Kitromilides (3) Jake Craven (2) Luke Forrester (2) Will Hartshorne (2) Lee Mcnamara Jami Doxey and Nathan Gould . George Lyth secured the man of the match award with a sterling performance in defence against probably one of the fastest forwards in the league.
In the second game the Falcons took on local rivals Tintwistle Athletic at Cemetry road in the first ever competitive game the boys had ever played together ! This did not really show as the team dominanted proceedings and ran out 10-0 winners . The goals came from Matthew Strogen (4) Ross Mullett (3) Archie Cannon (2) and Thomas Weston . All 11 boys played their part in particular Sam Ekgren who made a fantastic double save from a harshly awarded penalty but it was in fact Matthew who took the man of the match award on his debut for an outstanding all action display from central midfield!
11.09.2010 Glossop North End Kestrels 4 Chadderton Juniors 1
Glossop North End Kestrels started the new season with their first ever competitive 11 a side game against Chadderton Juniors at Cemetry road on Saturday morning . The close season had brought a mixed set of results in a number of friendlies as the 2 teams struggled to get to grips with the new format ! This was soon forgotten however as the Kestrels started like a house on fire on and tore into their opposition . For the record the boys won 4-1 with the goals coming from a Nathan Gould double Charlie Meagram and a first strike from debutant Jamie Loxey . Will Hartshorne took the man of the match award with his fantastic display from the right wing . The first game of the season augurs well for the rest of the campaign as the squad looked very strong is full of pace and has a strength in depth lacking in the last couple of years . Well done boys!
