The close season is as good a time as any to reflect on Glossop North End under 10s exploits during the season! Silverware was the order of the day for both the Kestrels and Falcons as both teams embarked on a very succesful campaign ! The season started with the Kestrels winning the Denton Youth summer tournament and finishing runners up in the Tintwistle one . In the league campaign both teams pushed Dukinfield Youth all the way and finished a creditable second . The Falcons achievement was all the more remarkable as the season before they had finished just below halfway ! Both teams also had the two top goal scorers in both divisions with Nathan Gould and Andreas Kitromilides for the Kestrels and Archie Cannon and Jake Craven for the Falcons . Will Hartshorne took the accolade for the most man of the matches in the league as well . The boys fared just as well in the cup competitions with the Kestrels winning the challenge cup beating Chadderton Juniors and the Falcons losing a closely fought game against Duki Youth having dominated the for large periods of the game . As well as the league and tournament campaigns the Kestrels were invited to compete in a prestigious event at Carrington by Manchester United and later on in the season both teams played at Platt lane in Manchester Citys North West competition . Space prevents naming each individual player but suffice to say everybody played their part in a great season!

The standard of football played by the boys was at times breathtaking and this led to a Manchester City scout coming to watch , having followed their progress all season , and culminated in him taking the details of 5 players Andreas ,Will Hartshorne ,Nathan Gould, Luke Forrester and Jake Craven with a view to inviting them down for extra training . It also has to be noted that Joe Parker spent around 2 months at Manchester United and has now been invited down to Stockport County where Andreas is now entering his 4th year there! Such is the success of Glossop under 10s that we are now fielding two 11 a side teams next season and manager Kevin Cannon is looking for extra players to represent the club . Please contact Kev on 07581339616 Jason 07791014220 or Yiannis 07976821371 for a trial. As well as this we are also looking for a local sponsor who would be associated with a very successfully run squad and who would be happy to be forever in the limelight!

30.04.2011 Pegs Juniors 4 Glossop North Falcons 3

The Falcons finally brought the curtain down on their first season as an 11 a side team with a game against Pegs Juniors . The campaign has certainly brought us some highs and some lows but it has to be noted that before September these boys had never played a competitive match together . The game itself was some what an anti-climax as injuries and holiday commitments meant that the boys had to go into the tussle one player short and without their regular goalkeeper . Chris Boggiano must be commended in volunteering to take up the position between the sticks . For the record the goals came from a Thomas Davies brace and another strike from top goalscorer Matt Strogen with Archie Canonn taking the man of the match award playing at left back ! . Well done boys enjoy the summer break and come back for pre season stronger and fitter for the long journey ahead .

The Kestrels season is not quite finished in that they play 3 important games over the next weekend ! On Saturday the boys take on Stalybridge Celtic in the League Cup final at Mossley . Then on the Sunday it is the highly prestigious County Cup Final versus our old foes Failsworth Dynamos at one of Manchester Uniteds training facilities in Salford before finishing the season with a league game against champions Denton Youth , a game the boys must win to secure runners up spot ...bring it on !!!

16.04.2011 Dukinfield Youth 0 Glossop North End Kestrels 3
The Kestrels travelled to top of the table Dukinfield Youth on Saturday morning knowing that anything less than a convincing victory would effectively end their title aspirations ! From the off the boys took the game by the scruff of the neck and limited Duki to one shot on target through out the whole match . Kane Hardman marshaled the defensive unit of Lockie Gough Lee Mcnamara Jamie Doxey Joe Parker and Luke Spivey superbly well . It was in midfield that the Kestrels showed thier prowess with Andreas Kitromilides Luke Forrester Adam Cooper and Will Hartshorne dominating proceedings for long periods of the encounter . Whilst up front Jake Craven led the line superbly well and was well supported by attacking midfielder Charlie Megram . The goals came from 3 superb strikes by Will Jake and Luke Forrester whilst Lee picked up the man of the match award with a brilliant display as sweeper . The win means that the Kestrels will take the title to the last Saturday of the season although no longer in their own hands they have to rely on other results .

10.4.2011 County Cup Semi-final Northside 0 Glossop North End Kestrels 2
The boys travelled into unchartered territory with a County Cup semi-final against Northside on Sunday morning . Missing a couple of key members of the squad it was understandable that the team started apprehensively . However as the game wore on and with a number of key substitutions the boys began to acquire a foothold in the game and with 10 minutes left to go in the encounter Jake Craven scored the first of his two goals . Three minutes before the end Jake scored again and the boys were in the final of this very prestigious competition ! We again meet up with our old sparring partners in Failsworth Dynamos who beat Dukinfield Youth in the other game . As has been the case in a number of matches this season there were no stand out performances and it was decided to award the man of the match trophy to the team as a whole such was the all round excellent performance !

2.04.2011 Denton Youth 3 Glossop North End Kestrels 2
Glossop North End Falcons 1 Dukinfield Tigers 3

The kestrels title hopes took a massive hit at Denton on Saturday morning in a highly entertaining game ! Against very good opposition the game ebbed and flowed with either team looking they could win the game . The Kestrels twice dragged themselves back into the game with goals from Jake Craven and captain Andreas Kitromilides but defensive lapses cost the boys dear and a goal in the dying embers of the game secured Denton the points . Goalkeeper Kane Hardman was named man of the match for a very assured performance .

The Falcons took on one of the best teams in the League on Saturday morning at Cemetry Road in Dukinfield Tigers . The boys more than matched them for large periods of the game and in fact a sweetly taken goal from Ross Mullett dragged the team back into contention . On another day a couple of referee decisions could have gone the Kestrels way and in the end the Tigers capitalised on the teams fatigue and deservedly took the honours 3-1 . Archie Cannon was named man of the match in his best game of the season so far !

26.3.2011 3d Dynamos 0 Glossop North End Kestrels 16
Glossop North Falcons 3 Audenshaw Juniors 0
The Kestrels seem intent on setting themselves up for a very exciting finale to the season . As it stands they are already through to the League Cup final , have a very important County Cup semi-final next month and sit proudly at the top of the league with just 3 games to go . On Saturday the boys travelled to Uppermill to take on 3D Dynamos and came away with a very convincing 16-0 win . The stand out fact about the game was that the Kestrels had 11 different goal scorers on the day . This is a sure fire sign of the excellent team spirit within the squad at the moment ! Racking up the goals were Jake Craven (5) Andreas Kitromilides (2) Lee Mcnamara (2) Luke Forrester Charlie Megram Lockie Gough Nathan Gould Kane Hardman Will Hartshorne and Adam Cooper . Such was the dominance in the game and the outstanding team camaraderie it was decided to award the whole team the man of the match award !

The Falcons got their season back on track and cemented their place in mid table with a pleasing 3-0 triumph over Audenshaw Juniors . The boys spirit seems to have returned and some of the football played at times was brilliant . Archie Cannon with a brace and Matthew Strogen with the other were the goal scorers whilst Nick Smith took the man of the match accolade for the second successive week with a commanding performance in the heart of the defence !

19.03.2011 Glossop North End Kestrels 7 3D Dynamos 0
Failsworth Dynamos 8 Glossop North End Falcons 1

The Kestrels moved backed to the top of the league and on course for a unprecedented treble with a convincing 7-0 defeat of 3d Dynamos ! It was the teams first home game since October 31st and shows how well they are playing that their ascent to the top has been on the back of a number of away games . Goal scorers were Jake Craven (2) Nathan Gould (2) Luke Forrester Joe Brotherton and Charlie Megram . The man of the match award went to Joe Parker for his very accomplished performance at right back .

The Falcons were not quite so fortunate and had to play the league leaders with a number of key players . The team tried manfully to contain the fast flowing football of the Dynamos but still conceded a number of goals at key moments in the game . Ross Mullett scored the Kestrels only goal of the game whilst Nick Smith was named man of the match.

15.01.2011 Glossop North End Falcons 8 Audenshaw 2
The Falcons ever improving season reached new heights on monday morning with an 8-2 thumping of Audenshaw at Cemetry Road . For the record Glossops goal scorers were Thomas Davies (4) Matthew Strogen (2) Aaron Griffiths and Ross Mullett with Thomas deservedly taking the man of the match honours . The boys were slow to start the game and quickly went 1 goal down . Having then got back on level terms however there was only going to be one winner and Glossop dominated proceedings .

The Kestrels will be hoping to get their county cup campaign back on track having seen the tie against Middleton Lads postponed for the second time on Sunday with it re-arranged for January 23rd!

8.01.11 Denton Youth 0 Glossop North End Kestrels 7
Falswoth Dynamoes 9 Glossop North End Falcons 1

Having not played for the best part of 6 weeks the Kestrels could be forgiven for being a little lethargic ! Indeed for the first 10 minutes of this league cup tie Denton Youth, unbeaten all season upto this point, threatened to take the boys apart . Such is the resolution of the Kestrels however having settled down and scored the first goal ,of the game the result was never in doubt . The boys finally ran out worthy winners at 7-0 with the goals coming from Jake Craven (3) Charlie Meagram (2) Joe Parker and Nathan Gould with Jake named man of the match ! This team seems to get better week on week and to destoy the league leaders with such an emphatic score line bodes well for the future !

The Falcons were not quite so lucky and came up against the league leaders and if truth be told the best team in the second division in Failswoth Dynamoes . Missing key personnel it was always going to be an uphill battle but the boys stuck to the task manfully . Indeed a number of late goals were conceded as the team tried to get back into the game . Top goal scorer Archie Cannon scored Glossops goal with new arrival Harry Wilson named man of the match !

13.11.10 Stalybridge Celtic 2 Glossop North End Kestrels 4
Uppermill 7 Glossop North End Falcons 2

In the first game for the under 11s it has to be noted that a 2 minute silence in preparation for Remembrance Sunday was impeccably observed by both teams all the coaching staff and both sets of parents as well.....well done everybody ! The game itself was a fantastic advert for football with two high quality sides competing at the highest level . As is usual the boys quickly went one goal down but quickly hauled themselves back into the game with two quick fire strikes from Lee Mcnamara and Nathan Gould ! In the second half the team found that extra 10% and further goals from Jake Craven and an expertly dispatched penalty from Andreas Kitromilides secured a very important 3 points and in turn strengthened their position at the top of the league . Lee was deservedly named man of the match .

In the second game the Falcons were up against one of the best teams in the league but this did not phase the boys and they more than matched Uppermill for large sections of the game . On a boggy pitch and without any substitutes fatigue soon became a factor and the game slipped away in the latter stages . For the record Aaran Griffiths hit two excellent goals ,his first for the club, whilst Harry Wilson on his debut secured the player of the match award for his constant probing from centre midfield .
